Types of Windows

There are 2 types of windows in ArtSGraph. When you start the program you just open Calc Window. You always have single Calc Window open. Then you can open as many instances of Graph Window as you need.

Each window has menu, toolbar and status line. Menu and toolbar are used to perform operations. Status line reminds you of details of operations being executed. You can also use Function Panel and Math Panel to enter math expressions.

In Calc Window you can type in math expressions and evaluate them. You can assign expressions to variables – to re-use them in calculations or to plot their graphs.

There are many other types of calculations that you can perform in Calc Window, such as  calculation of derivative, definite integral, finite sum. See details in List of Functions.

Calc Window supports 8 types of graphs. They include graphs specified in Cartesian coordinates, polar coordinates, curves defined parametrically, level lines, directional field and broken line The other 2 types are broken line and cubic spline plotted through points loaded from an external file.

You can define a graph directly in Graph Window, or pre-define necessary formulas in Calc Window, by assigning them to variables. The latter method is preferable if you wish to modify graph’s definition and observe how it affects the graph. For instance, you can change value of a parameter in function definition or add more terms to the polynomial.
