  • General information.

    The character recognition add-on module for ArtsKey (hereinafter Plus) is intended for entering text in any program on your PPC. You only write symbols in any part of screen and Plus translates them into typed text and enters on focused window(window having cursor). Symbol drawings (hereinafter shortcuts) must be entered without stylus take-off from screen. If shortcut was not correctly recognized you will listen warning sound. You may enter new shortcuts and edit available in the enclosing library to adjust recognition for your individual writing method.

    To increase recognition quality all characters are divided into four groups.

    Symbols:

    Caret Return,

    White space,

    Backspace,

    Comma(,) and Period(.)

    are recognized in all modes.


    Plus setup.

    Plus automatically loads by ArtSKey if it detected on the device. To install Plus establish PC/PPC connection then run Setup program. To complete installation, restart your PPC by Reset button before the first start of the ArtSKey.


    Uninstallation.

    To uninstall Plus you should make standard remove procedure twice. First stage will finished with message reporting to restart device. After restarting PPC by Reset button, repeat remove procedure "Control Panel > Remove program" to complete uninstallation.


    Working with recognizer.


    Recognizer enabling.

    Run ArtSKey. If Plus loaded successfully you will see new icon: instead of standard ArtSKey's icon:
    This icon shows, that recognizer turned off. In this mode you use pen for navigation and selection text possibilities.
    To turn recognizer on:

    In this mode pen used to draw shortcuts with following recognition.

    Recognizer disabling.

    You may use pen for direct drawing and writing in NoteTaker and Pocket Outlook applications. To do this select Keyboard input item from ArtSKey menu. Unhidding Input panel also disabling recognizer.


    Recognizer usage.


    Drawing.

    Shortcuts you drawing are intended to recognition should be entered closely similar to shortcuts are kept in library. You can write shortcuts on any part of the screen. Recognition begin immediately after pen lifting. Your drawing will be cleared and recognized text will be entered in the application at the cursor position.

    All shortcuts available in the library and them writing methods are presented in the tables:



    Navigation and text selection.

    To change cursor position, you need to point its new location by short pen tap. To select text, you need to press and hold pen at the beginning of selection region until you hear special sound, then drag the pen to the end of selection. Recognition will be turned off for the next time you tap a pen.


    Switching between recognition modes.

    To change current recognition mode to another, select appropriate symbol group from ArtSKey menu or enter special shortcut.

    Entering characters in uppercase.

    You use the same shortcuts for upper-case and lower-case letters. However, to enter letter in uppercase you must first enter special shortcut "Shift":
    If shortcut you wrote whole text string is attached, all characters in string will be capitalized. The next shortcut will be entered in low case if "Return to low case after one drawing" flag in the option dialog is checked, else you need enter "Shift" shortcut twice to reset recognizer to lower-case mode:


    Accented letters entering.

    You can create accented characters by using special shortcuts after writing the letter you want to accent. For example to enter letter ü you need to write base character u, and then "Accent_7":

    Demonstration mode limitations..

    If ArtSKey working in demo mode, Plus also has some important limitations:

    You can enter new shortcuts, test recognition quality in the demo mode, but all changes will be lost after device resetting.

    Recognizer tuning.

    Select Pen Input item in the ArtSKey menu, then select Options item. The Option dialog appear on the screen.



    General properties.

    Use this property sheet to:



    View properties.

    Use this property sheet to view the drawing ways of shortcuts available in the library.

    One character may have different ways of writing, they stores in the library under different aliases.

    Learn properties..

    Use this property sheet to test shortcut recognition, adding new shortcuts in the library, editing shortcuts and its attached text strings presented in the library.


    Creating shortcut.

  • Clear drawing window by pressing button "Clear";
  • Draw new stroke then press button "Add";
  • In the appeared dialog enter shortcut's alias and attached text string that will be appear after this shortcut recognized.

  • * Symbol group this shortcut belongs is displayed in the dialog header. To change symbol group, select appropriate group from ArtSKey menu.
    * If you want to use this shortcut in different groups, consecutively select new group and enter appropriate this group text.
    * Long alias and attached text strings will be truncated to 32 characters.
  • Press OK button to save new shortcut in the library.


  • Deleting shortcut.

    Editing library.

    If you want to change text attached to appropriate shortcut:

    If you want to change shortcut and leave the text strings attached to this shortcut: Recognition testing. You may test recognition of all shortcuts available in the library:

    *You will see alias if this shortcut has no text (Enter, Tab, BackSpace);

    *You will hear warning message if shortcut wasn't recognized;

    *Shortcut will not recognized if it hasn't attached text string in the chosen symbol group.
